Summer Art Drawing and Painting Course

07.06.2020 - 14.06.2020 Paros | Neva Bergemann 895 USD

Drawing and painting workshops are held for seven days on the island of Paros, Greece with students working mostly in the morning hours from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. daily. The afternoons and evenings are left open for students to continue working independently or for pleasurable walks, lying lazily on the beach, or socializing with the fellow artists and locals.

The program is open to all artistic levels, from the complete beginner to wanting to learn the basics, to the seasoned professional looking for an idyllic setting. Because of the nature of a small group (only a maximum of 10 students per session), individual attention is given throughout the day and teaching is easily adapted to the abilities and needs of each student. Artists on the Move workshops also encourage a variety of approaches, individualism and diversity in styles. Layered painting techniques, color theory, gesture drawing, visual balance and movement are some of the topics explored.

Art classes are held outside in the breathtaking Greek landscapes of Paros. Students paint and draw in open settings, surrounded by stunning views of the Aegean Sea or nestled in the little streets of the old towns of Paroikia, Naoussa and Lefkes. During printmaking and other work sessions, students spend time in and around the studio that is located in a peaceful and private setting. Transportation to and from creative workshop locations is by public bus or rented car.

As a group we visit the Church of 100 Doors, the earliest remaining Byzantine church in Greece, and its adjacent Baptistery built from the 4th to the 6th centuries. We also visit the Archaeological Museum and the ancient marble mines.

Artists on the Move offers a unique holiday experience where physical relaxation and enjoyment of the senses work side by side with artistic expression and learning.

The Courses

The painting courses are designed to deepen the participant's knowledge of painting and drawing by studying elements of light, line quality, proportion, gesture, color and composition. In addition to the formal elements, students will be encouraged to develop new ways of seeing and feeling the beauty of the Mediterranean. Students may choose to work in oil, acrylic or watercolor during the art workshops.

In addition, a few days will be set aside in the course to learn monotype printmaking. This will be introduced as an expansion on the painting and drawing process. Students' sketches from earlier in the week will be used as the basis for prints. For many students this will be their first time handling printing inks or working a printing press. Most participants come to find that it is an interesting medium. It renders immediate, dramatic and sometimes unexpected results. Printmaking is unique and often acts as a bridge between the processes of painting and drawing.
