Arts and Crafts - What Is That?

Arts and crafts - The term represents every craft that requires artistic skill to be performed. The products of handicrafts are characterized by unique workmanship and own designs. They are manufactured unique pieces. Arts and crafts, like the related arts and crafts, are assigned to applied art. Regardless of artistic quality standards and way of production, the term "handicraft" has established itself as a collective term for both arts and crafts, as well as arts and crafts products from all over the world.

In the preservation of traditional craftsmanship, the direct involvement of an artist plays an important role: materiality, workmanship and aesthetics of design are mainly important. Most of the work remains in functional and applied areas. Designs and aesthetic interests are used frequently in order to be able to enhance consumer goods.

In addition to our painting and photography classes, we also offer other courses that can be categorized as arts & crafts. .For example our tutor Peter Lanyon offers wood carving courses. Further, Simon Keeley has a range of skills. As a stone carver he has an extensive knowledge about stones, drawing, ornamenting and the human figure. He can create scale models of any of the afore-mentioned in clay or wax and makes moulds before he casts them in plaster or bronze. He has developed a passion for teaching, that’s why he does it also privately at his ‘summer studio’, at the Art Academy in London and West Dean college in Sussex. His deep passion is to carve stone, this is a vocation that he has chosen and he feels that it is linked to a spiritual path, which is gradually revealing him the way. https://www.artistravel.eu/en/tutors/simon-keeley
