En-Plein-Air-Etherealness

Do you know the urge to capture a beautiful landscape when seeing it? While walking through a green forest, sunbeams breaking through the leaves, while standing on top of a hill, having a view without cessation to untouched nature, while experiencing the beauty of a sunrise when a lake is still blurry from the fog in the dawn? Well… discover the etherealness of plein-air-painting and go for it!

The history of plein-air-painting goes back for centuries, artists have always taken their easel and paint outside to capture the beauty of vies to flourishing nature with their brush. The French impressionists have finally made it into an art form, formed by their desire to paint light and capturing its ever changing, ephemeral qualities. To get the full experience of it, they created portable paint equipment, such as the field easel or paint tubes, which allowed them to paint “en plein air” – “in the open air”.

As a first step, sketching the lines of the view you want to paint can help you with the overall design of your painting. With doing so, you can align the composition of it and adjust the painting to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible. Then: paint. Paint with all the colours that you see and capture the moment right where you are, using your brush.

The urge to paint outdoors did not vanish now? Quite the contrary, right? Not a problem! There are people who cannot wait to teach you their profession – as for example Mark Warner! Mark draws inspiration from the landscape, although subject matter and application at times can be very different. He adores using colour and line while interpreting the light, weather conditions and a love for the materials. He works directly in the field (literally on many occasions!) from sketches created outside as well as notes and photographs taken on location. This is then developed back in the studio. Mark has numerous works in private collections and has exhibited widely in both England and Wales. Interested in being taught by Mark? Go and book your plein-air-experience right here!
