Using a Pool Noodle as a Handy Paintbrush Holder

Urban sketchers know the struggle: Using multiple paintbrushes successively while painting or sketching outside is not easy! Once a paintbrush gets wet, there is no suitable spot to put it down and no additional jar like there is in the studio. If you want your paintbrushes to stay clean, you can’t put them on the floor either!

Making a handy paintbrush holder for Urban Sketching or painting holidays

But what can you do to keep your paintbrushes clean and dry while painting and sketching outside? We would like to show you an easy and effective trick: All you need is a short section of a pool noodle and a knife. Cut the pool noodle and slice it part of the way through. Make sure that you don’t cut too deep. Repeat this step until there is one cut for every paintbrush you want to use on the road or during a sketching holiday. Now you can insert a brush into each cut.

In a second step you turn the pool noodle around and cut a slit lengthwise. Cut through the noodle until you reach the hole in the middle and then stop cutting.

Clean brushes - for every Urban Sketching or painting holiday moment

The slit lengthwise allows you to put your new paintbrush holder onto the edge of your outside painting jar. The remaining water can easily drip back from the brushes into the jar. At the same time your brushes stay protected from any outside dirt! Your new handy paintbrush holder is a perfect supplement to your Urban Sketching or sketching holiday equipment.
