Water coloring is a very interesting technique because the materials and the way to use them are so different from the use of oil or acrylic paint. We will become familiar with the materials and experience different manners of applying them. We’ll explore different motifs, beginning with abstract composition and leading up to landscapes. We will work in the studio as well as outside in the village’s natural surroundings. We will explore the use of Chinese ink and other painting mediums as well as water-coloring techniques.

Everyone has the capacity to create and therefore the possibility to obtain results, which can be expressive, communicative and interesting to contemplate. The experience itself –looking, creating, deciding, judging, analyzing, waiting, observing …. -enriches us, because just as in life, we learn how to handle “problems,” the challenge of getting over difficulties and integrating “mistakes”…
The path is the journey, the aim is uncertain…
Concentration and mental dialogue are parts of the experience of this ambitious act of creation.
Accommodation
The village of Munilla, in the southern part of La Rioja, is our base. It is the perfect hub for excursions and trips, hiking and walks in the surrounding mountains and forests: visit small abandoned villages and archeological sites where you can see dinosaur tracks as well as traces of ancient industrial activity still present in the surrounding areas. Take a bath in the hot springs of nearby Arnedillo; watch Spain’s famed black vultures soar above the carved mountain heights; visit La Rioja’s celebrated wine cellars and bodegas…. Discover this beautiful and little known region of Spain!
In the middle of our village you will find the casa rural (rural lodging) “Las Tres Sierras”, a completely renovated and expanded 19th century edification where participants in our courses stay. The house has 7 rooms and can be occupied by up to 15 persons. The rooms are distributed on three levels, 5 of them with their own bathroom, while the 2 rooms on the upper floor share a bathroom. The furnishings are simple and comfortable. On the ground floor there is a big living room with integrated kitchen and dining-room (winter garden). The kitchen is fully equipped with a micro-wave, dish-washer, washing machine and refrigerator. In the living room there is a TV and a fireplace. On the ground floor there is another bathroom.
The house boasts a small garden with a barbeque area, with lovely views of the surrounding mountains. “Las Tres Sierras” is near to our studio, the “Bilderfabrik Munilla,” or “Factory of Images,” and offers the possibility and space to reflect on the day’s work while sitting together and talking, or even to continue working in a more relaxed manner. Breakfast and other meals can be enjoyed together, and the little garden offers possibilities for other activities…
A stone’s throw away is the “Factory of Images”, our studio and exhibition space.
The group provides board for itself. There are stores and small supermarkets in the nearby town of Arnedillo (6 km). In Munilla there is a bar in the old schoolhouse and another in the “Casino,” which during the summer is a restaurant which offers the possibility of purchasing some food items …
On request I can help with find other lodging possibilities in the village: the casa rural “La Baldufa” (a simple hotel with large rooms with complete bath, an abundant breakfast and the possibility of ordering other meals); the “Riojania,” with more luxurious guest houses to let with board the responsibility of guests; and the “Casino de Munilla”, the local casino or gathering place, an establishment with a 19th century fin-de-siècle atmosphere, reformed and with a restaurant during the summer months. The 6 double rooms are simply furnished and feature a complete bath.
