‘There are always flowers for those who want to see them.’ – Henri Matisse Macramé is back and how! Macramé is the knotting technique with which modern, stylish interior objects and elegant jewellery is made. You will find incredible macramé wall hangings, elegant macramé curtains and sophisticated necklaces with only a limited number of knots. Of course it is possible to buy the stylish macramé items in a shop or online, but why not make them yourself? Just as beautiful but definitely more fun!
If you want to learn the technique, Anita will be the perfect teacher for you. She is a visual arts teacher with a passion for textiles. With her infectious enthusiasm she gets everyone to tie the knot! Have you been working with macramé for some time and do you want to finally make a large or complicated work in peace? Anita likes to think along with you about color, composition and use of technique.
For the macramé we use Oeko-Tex cotton. The sticks and bamboo for wall hangings you will find in our 11 hectare of woodland.
The mornings are reserved for inspiring Macramé classes in open air or in the half open air studio, If you want to give your wall hanging a personal, natural look just take a stroll through our beautiful woodlands and search for bamboo or tree branches to start your macramé wall hanging with.
Of course you can use the afternoons to continue with your macramé art, but during a holiday week at Atelier Souriant, we offer you 3 special afternoon experiences in addition to the morning lessons: go on a walk in the beautiful nature around La Forêt Souriante, take a trip to a nice swimming spot at the river, a plus beaux village or an abbey or follow a yoga session in the garden and woodlands. The extra experiences are tailored as much as possible to the wishes of you and your fellow guests. We look forward to meeting you!
During this week everyone works on their own project based on a pattern, an example or her/his own design. The maximum group size will be 7, so there is a lot of room for individual guidance.
Wednesday is a day without any classes, so you can explore the area on your own or relax at La Forêt Souriante. We are more than happy to share our favourite things to do with you! For an easy going hike we recommend sturdy walking shoes.

General information
Nothing beats a delicious, healthy meal in the great outdoors with good company.
The carefully prepared meals are included in the price.
From the introductory dinner on the day of arrival to the farewell breakfast on the last day.
At La Forêt Souriante you will stay in one of the two comfortable gîtes, in one of the two charming chambres d'hôte or in one of the two glamping tents, all with private bathrooms.
The large studio sits in the former stables, where we have the art classes and where in the afternoon you can work in private if you like. In every bedroom you will find coffee or tea making facilities.
Sit, stroll, relax, hike in our 11 acres of woodland and enjoy. You will be amazed at the amount of wild life on our doorstep. We have more than enough comfortable garden furniture for you to observe nature or to relax and read a good book.
We also have a wonderful view of the Castle of Najac, an inspiring scene!
The area around Najac is known as a very attractive hiking area. Join us on a varied hike with wonderful views and don’t forget your bathing suits, there are some lovely spots to swim in the river or to kayak on the river.
Najac is one of the plus beaux villages of France, but not the only charming picturesque village near La Forêt Souriante. We are happy to share our favourite places with you!
